The Calathea Ctenanthe Burle Marxii, often known as the Fishbone Prayer Plant, is a global favourite in the indoor plant world thanks to its stunning foliage of silvery green leaves with alternating stripes. It is named after the famous Brazilian artist and landscape designer ? Roberto Burle Marxii ? and is certainly a work of art that would look beautiful in any environment.
Plant Care
Fertilizer/ feed for the plant: Feed your Calathea a nitrogen-rich fertiliser every three weeks throughout its growing season in the summer. Feed the fertiliser less often in the winter, but avoid overfertilization to avoid leaf damage.
Repotting : When your Calathea outgrows its present container, repot it annually in rich, well-draining soil in a one-size-larger pot. Calatheas can be reproduced by dividing the main rhizome when the parent plant has grown to a suitable size and maturity. Stem cuttings can also be used to propagate it.
Typical issues
1. Why the leaves of Calathea are turning brown.
Both under-watering and over-fertilization can cause leaf browning. If this problem happens and persists, water your plant less regularly and apply less fertiliser.
2. Why the leaves of my Calathea are curling ?
Calathea leaves curl due to a lack of moisture. To avoid this, make sure you are adequately watering your plant. You may sprinkle your Calathea many times each week as well.
3. What causes the yellowing of Calathea leaves?
Yellowing leaves indicate overwatering. Check the soil and roots if you find yellow leaves. Reduce the frequency of watering if the roots get too mushy to avoid root rot.
Design and Decoration
Light Requirements: Calatheas love bright indirect sunshine, however they will burn and die if exposed to direct sunlight.
Locations : Calatheas are known to be erratic in their behaviour. They may, however, be cultivated inside with the correct quantity of water and sunlight. Keep your Calathea near a window or on a shaded balcony where it will receive enough indirect light. Offices, lobbies, cubicles, and conference rooms with well-lit nooks are all excellent sites.
Tip for styling/decor : A single Calathea may completely transform the aesthetic of your house. It adds complexity and colour to a basic setting. You may also put several species of Calatheas together in separate planters to create a green corner with stunning variegations that are pleasing to the eye. For the Calathea, we propose a lighter monochromatic planter or our gold metallic planter.
