Staurogyne Sp. Brown Sp. Brown is a genus in the Acanthaceae family. Staurogyne repens is the first plant from this genus to be introduced into the hobby. S. sp. ‘Port Velho’ is another aquatic plant, but it is not as well known as S. repens. S. sp. ‘Brown’ and Staurogyne sp. ‘Bihar’ from India are newcomers to the hobby. When grown above water, this plant has green round leaves that turn brownish green to cognac in submerged conditions. A fantastic choice for midground settings. Many hobbyists claim that this one can be used in the foreground because it can stay short in bright light.

With over 2500 species worldwide, Staurogyne repens carpet is one of the most popular freshwater plants in the Acanthaceae family. This species lives in the Cristalino River in South America. It’s a hardy plant that can withstand many of the mistakes that inexperienced fishkeepers make. As a result, it’s suitable for anyone who wants to add some vegetation to their aquarium. Staurogyne repens, like all plants, will improve the quality of the water in your aquarium, assisting you in keeping it clean. It will release oxygen and eliminate some of the nitrates and toxins in the water as it photosynthesizes. This plant is distinguished by its brilliant green colours and bushy appearance; it is a popular choice in aqua-scaped tanks.

Staurogyne repens is a multipurpose aquarium plant that belongs to the Acanthaceae family of dicotyledonous floating plants, which contains over 2500 species and 250 genera. The Staurogyne genus contains six freshwater species, the most common of which is Staurogyne repens, which is widely used in freshwater aquarium decoration. The River Rio Cristalino in Mato Grosso is the source of this freshwater plant species in the South Amazonas. The small plant grows on and between hardscapes along the fast-flowing river’s banks (rocks). Staurogyne repens has a food value, which is intriguing. This plant grows in the wild, and native people use its leaves to flavour rice.

Staurogyne Repens Appearance on the Carpet:

Staurogyne repens looks similar to species of the invasive Hygrophila genus, which includes South American marsh weeds, but it’s taller and has bigger leaves. It has a bright green colour, much brighter than other hardy forms like hornwort.

The stems are rigid in order to stay in place in the tank. Their leaves are vibrant and densely packed, ideal for creating a carpet on top of the substrate.

This carpet will grow to be about 2-4 inches tall, providing you with a lot more open swimming space than a mature plant.

The leaves are an oval with a broad base and a tip at the end, which is a fairly standard leaf shape. The roots are slender and white. They are usually buried in the substrate to keep the plant in place, but they will occasionally sprout upwards (to gather nutrients from the water).

Staurogyne Repens Carpet Dimensions:

Staurogyne Repens Carpet can reach a height of 4 inches. Staurogyne repens has a distinct appearance that lends itself well to aquascaping (an excellent foreground plant). It grows into a lovely thick carpet that can reach four inches in height. This means that, even though it covers the substrate, it won’t take up too much space in your tank. One of my favourite aspects of this plant is its colour. The green is quite vibrant, and it has the potential to drastically alter the colour dynamic of the aquarium.

Staurogyne Repens Carpet Care and Tank Configuration:

For Staurogyne Repens to thrive in your aquarium, you must create an environment that closely resembles its natural habitat. To do so, keep the following requirements in mind.

Size and Specifications of the Staurogyne Repens Carpet Tank

Staurogyne Repens Carpet Optimal Tank Size:

Staurogyne Repens Carpet requires a tank size of 10 gallons.

The only disadvantage of Staurogyne repens is that it requires very specific water conditions to grow, which is why it is only found in a few places in South America. As a result, to give the plant the best chance of survival, you’ll need to make the Rio Cristalino as realistic as possible in your aquarium.

Staurogyne Repens Carpet Water Parameters

Temperature of the water:

Staurogyne Repens Carpet prefers water temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius (68 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit).
