Micranthemum micranthimoids “Monte Carlo” (6″ x 4″ MAT) is a medium category plant that thrives in moderate to high lighting and CO2 injection but can also survive in lower lighting and nutrient conditions. Using a nutrient-rich substrate, such as Tropica Aquarium Soil, will greatly aid its growth. It is such a virulent species that, under the right conditions, it can easily grow as an epiphyte attached to rocks or wood, provided adequate nutrition is provided via the water column. It quickly sends out runners and forms a solid carpet, and when used as an epiphyte, it grows in a cascading formation, creating a lovely effect. Monte Carlo is a creeping plant that grows compactly in the tank and produces small, round, beautifully bright and light green leaves. It can be used for aquascaping and giving the tank a carpet-like appearance by matching it with a naturally toned substrate. Micranthemum micranthimoids “Monte Carlo” (6″ x 4″ MAT) is very similar to Hemianthus Callitrichoides (HC/Dwarf Baby Tears). The only difference is that Monte Carlo is easier to grow and has smaller leaves. The plant can grow to a height of 1-2″.

The submerged leaves are pale yellow, narrow, slightly arched, and arranged in opposite or whorls on the stem. The leaves that grow above the water are round and bright green in colour. This graceful plant can be placed in the foreground, midground (preferable), or background. This plant creeps when exposed to direct sunlight. However, consistent water parameters are required for its long-term growth.

For its luxurious growth, good ferritization, CO2 rich water, light, and stable pH by maintaining alkalinity around 3dKH are required.

This Micranthemum species is currently popular around the world, with a high demand in the aquarium trade. This plant was originally found in Argentina. The leaves are round, light green, and arranged oppositely on the stem. A very graceful creeping plant that is adaptable due to its moderate ease. In a nutrient-rich environment, it will form a dense carpet. Micranthemum micranthimoids “Monte Carlo” (6″ x 4″ MAT) can also survive in lower light levels. The addition of CO2 is required. Thinning the densely grown ones will help the plant maintain normal growth; otherwise, the creeping stems beneath will begin to decay, potentially causing the entire mat to uproot.
