Micranthemum micranthimoids [Tc] (Hemianthus Glomeratus) /Micranthemum micranthimoids is an excellent plant for densely planted beds. It develops a creeping growth habit under strong light and may thus be used as a foreground plant in brightly lit aquariums. This aquatic plant is perfect for creating thick groups in the centre of big aquariums or for the bottom of nano aquariums. If the substrate is kept moist, it can also be developed emergently. It is indigenous to Florida and can still be found in huge numbers in its natural surroundings. It grows in damp locations and stagnant water, among other places. Its emerging shape is a dense, low, light green carpet of little creeping shoots. Hemianthus glomeratus has been in the hobby for a long time and is known by various names. It’s also known as ‘Baby tears’ or ‘Pearl weed’ in stores. Botanically, it was previously known as Hemianthus micranthemoides “HM” and Micranthemum micranthemoides “MM,” but it was recently discovered to be neither of those plants. Hemianthus glomeratus is its scientific name. However, except from a few botanists and hobbyists, it appears that using the correct name is uncommon. Most commercial manufacturers continue to identify their products with “Hemianthus micranthemoides.” Hemianthus glomeratus is a green stem plant with thin green leaves and thin green stems. The H. leaves glomeratus grows in whorls of 3 to 4 leaves and is opposite (two leaves per stem node). Its modest size, combined with its ease of growth, makes it an excellent choice for aquascapers because it can be placed anywhere in an aquascape. Depending on how short you cut it, it can be a dense background bush or a little foreground plant. Pearlweed is utilised to fill the midground on both the left and right sides of this scape. The latest herbarium record of this plant from nature is from 1941, and it is now regarded missing and perhaps extinct. Hemianthus micranthemoides was found in fluvial tidal zones on the Atlantic coast of the United States between the states of Virginia and New York. This Hemianthus can be used in a variety of ways. It forms a wonderful carpet in the foreground under intense lighting, and when trimmed periodically, it can be fashioned into a nice bush in the middleground. In tiny aquaria, it can also serve as a colourful eyecatcher in the tank’s background. Hemianthus glomeratus is a highly intriguing plant for nano tanks due to its tiny leaves.
